September 20 Adel This has been a very positive experience for all the players. We have had a great turnout. 35 players and a total of 12 fathers have volunteered their time to our camp. ADM Coach Mike Whisner has been a regular on Saturdays and has had positive comments about our camp. We have 1-2 coaches from the 2002 season and one of the comments they had after week one was that in an hour in a half we accomplished more than they could in a week of teaching the basics. This weekend is our last and we plan on spending the entire camp running scrimmages. All in all the kids have had fun, the parents have had fun and all our volunteer coaches have had fun. Everyone is looking forward to the 2004 camp and our 2nd grade participants are looking forward moving up to the Junior Division next season.
September 13 Dallas Center On a cold and rainy Saturday morning in Grimes, the Dallas Center and Grimes Pee-Wee football players kicked off their football camp. We had excellent participation from our future football players. Our camp focused primarily on learning the fundamentals of flag football. Some of the fundamentals we covered were understanding football terminology and alignment, going for the flags, and pass receiving to name a few. We are looking forward to next few Saturdays to further refine our skills and the ability to show what we have learned in scrimmages.
On September 27th and October 4th, Woodward and Granger Pee-Wee football players will join Dallas Center and Grimes Pee-Wee football players in Dallas Center.
Van Meter We reviewed calisthenics and proper football stance. We then moved to a blocking drill teaching the kids to stay low and extend their arms with their palms out into the chest of the defender while churning their feet and pushing the defender. From here we moved into a flag pulling drill. This seemed to be a difficult drill for a lot of the boys but they did get better toward the end. At the end of practice we divided into three teams and ran some plays against the other squads, about six plays for each team. The kids seem to be having a good time and are really paying attention and picking up on the fundamentals of the game. |
